Tasks to be completed on the trailer…

Full assessment of wheel bearings – minimum repack, maximum replace.
Check Rear Door Spring mechanism – regrease/rust preventative?
Spray rust preventitive where required (WD40). Permanent can for Trailer?
Electrical test of “side lights” – determine what lights them (are bulbs blown?). Replace or re-affix as necessary.

Mount corkboard/whiteboard to trailer door (‘shopping list’ to manage inventory / maintenance required etc).
Add “pocket” at bottom for other paperwork (curent/optimum inventory/tour permits etc?).
Caps for “sharp ends” of shelving? (Silicon dabbed on will probably only last temporarily).
Bracket system for propane tanks at front? Incorporate keeping spare tire on front also?

Solution suggested that holes be drilled in front shelf to store d/o’s (legs drop through holes to protect). No requirement for boxes (excess weight)? – remaining pieces of shelves to be utilized as ‘lock down’ for d/o’s. Padding required between d/o and lid.

Are we planning second shelf inside/front? Would the above would be better lower down?

    Identification on roof. (“T416″ ?).
    Graphics?

    Anything else?

one additional thing: possibility of taking the remainder of the plywood sheet (currently on the floor of the trailer) and making an end to the shelves (floor to ceiling) next to the side door. This will prevent cargo from shifting toward the door opening. Also would block the pointed ends of the metal shelves.

While we’re at it, we’re going to need bungee cords to hold the staves and shelter poles on the shelves (we have one shelf bungeed as an example).

    Hi guys,

Trailer is now locked in my gated backyard. It can stay there for at least a little while until we know next steps.

It pulled great. You hardly know it was back there until you look in the mirrors.

There are a number of details we now need to work thru:

    1. Registered to the boy scout troop. I have the title but didn’t take ownership of it. We need to transfer the title ownership to the boy scouts and also get new plates. The trailer currently does not have plates at all, said he never bothered. Only in small town rural Texas!

    2. Locking up. We need to determine our new procedure for locking up the trailer and location for parking at the church.

    3. Spare tire. There is no spare tire currently with this trailer. We need to get one.

    4. Axle grease and grease gun. The axles have DIY type grease fittings on the hubs. We need to buy the right kind of grease for the bearings/axles and then buy a grease gun we leave in the trailer so it is easy to do this maintenance where ever we are.

    5. Removing decals on the sides. These are just stickers it turns out. I am told that with a hot hair dryer they can be peeled off.

    6. New locks for the doors. This has the exact same kind of locks as the first trailer. Need 3 total, one for side door and 2 for back.

    7. Tires. We need to team evaluate the tires. They have tread, but they look old. I’m guessing they are 5-6 year old. If we were driving great distances I would recommend we change them out. For shorter regional trips, more difficult to say. We might be able to wait until before the June backpacking/summer camp trip.

    8. Need to get a tax receipt to the seller for his records of the $500.00 donation to troop 416. He dropped his price from 3.5K to 3.0K for us given our circumstances. I have his information. BTW, he is a life insurance rep and gave me a stack of b-cards to pass out for anyone interested. :)

    9. Eventually need to buy a 2 5/8 ball hitch for the troop. I have one we can use in the meantime. This is not a common need hitch ball size so probably don’t want to have everyone buy their own.

None of this is urgent but I wanted to get this documented before I forget.

See you in a next Saturday for the backpacking, I’m off to China till then.

Rocky and I took another look over the trailer on Sunday. We identified a variety of tasks to be addressed. I’ve also replicated some outstanding things from the list above that apply this time round also.

In no particular order (and looks worse than it is)….

Two DONE – Wheel bearings (two definitely loose – tighten/repack or replace).
(Inside LG8149 or L681A9 ? Romania, Outer L44849 LYC China)
(Oil Seal TCM 17255TB, National 473796, Daemar S17525631BS)

DONE – Flip nut over holding trailer lock in place.
    Mount spare wheel on front?
    MEASURED Propane Shelf on front?
    MEASURED Inside Shelving
Whiteboards – Inside panel of side door.
    Seal floor (and ramp).
Non-slip coating (or wire mesh?) on ramp.
DONE – Straighten bent gutter above rear door.
    Replace loose rivets on flashing.
    Replace front “star” bolts. Rusted.
    Caulk Roof Vent
    Replace Handle on roof vent.
Seal holes in wheel wells (inside).
WITH PAUL _ Replace “open side door” retaining latch.
FIXED – Remove spring hanging down inside side door.
New tumblers/keys for side door (supp. to locking bar)?
WITH PAUL – Repair/Replace emergency “safety brake” cable.
WITH AL – Inspect/Replace emergency “safety brake” backup battery.
Toolbox as required (jacks, wheel brace, WD40, etc.)

    Remove decals/clean
Affix new graphics (including number on roof).

Also PMLC, have allocated us a much better place for the trailer. Including authorization to secure a post into the ground (?). Need to discuss possibility of installing a GATE across front of this space.
