Adult Training

Every Scout deserves trained leaders and a safe environment.  Accordingly, Troop 416 encourages all adults affiliated with the Troop to be fully trained for the position they hold with the Troop.

Listed below is a summary of required training.


1.  Fast Start Training – Introduction to Scouting
Who:  Required for leaders (SM, ASM, committee members–that includes all parents) and for any
adults interacting with the scouts at meetings, campouts, etc.  Great
information for all!
How:  Online, takes about 60 minutes

2.  Youth Protection Training – Training to Ensure Safety for all Scouts
Who:  Required for leaders (SM, ASM, committee members–that includes all parents) and for any
adults interacting with the scouts at meetings, campouts, etc.  Great
information for all!
How:  Online, takes about 30 – 60 minutes

3. New Leader Essentials – Basic Training for All Leaders
Who:  Required for leaders (SM, ASM, committee members–that includes all parents working with the Troop Parents’ Committee)
How:  In person, 1-2 hours

4. Boy Scout Leader Specific – Specific Training for Each Type of Leader
Who:  Required for leaders (SM, ASM, committee members–that includes all parents working with the Troop Parents’ Committee)

Cost: $15.00, payable at the door


5. Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills – Outdoor Training for all who go Camping
Who:  Required for leaders (SM and ASM)  It is also great for any parents who attend campouts, but it is not required.
How:  Initial 1 hour meeting, plus one weekend camping session;

Whenever you complete a training session, please provide a copy of your training card to the Troop Training Coordinator.  Fast Start does not give you a card—just inform the Training Coordinator when you have completed it (on your honor!).

Training may be reimbursed by the Troop.  If you wish to be reimbursed for your training or training materials, please fill out a Request for Funds Form (available on our Forms page) and return to the Troop 416 Treasurer, or contact the Treasurer for more information.

    As of Jan 1, one leader must be Hazardous Weather trained on all camp outs. Training can be completed online at http://olc.scouting.org/index.html
