Troop Meetings will be held every Sunday (except camping weekends). Meeting times are 1:30pm-3:00pm. The meeting place is Preston Meadow Lutheran Church, 6801 Coit Road, in Plano (on Coit Road just South of Legacy—look for the tall bell tower with a cross on top). Meeting dates, times, and rooms will appear on the Church Website www.pmlc.org under Calendar. Troop Meetings will normally be held in Room 27 and 28. Boards of Review will normally be held in the Library. Rooms may be subject to change as the Troop grows, or with the slight chance other Church events would need to take precedence.
It will probably be easiest to enter and exit the South doors. If the doors are locked for some reason, please call Carol Ann Kiner at 214.335.9847 or David Howerton at 214.334.3339.
Occasionally, informal meetings (no uniforms, a few leaders, no program, an opportunity to make appointments to get caught up on requirements or do badge work) may be scheduled when FISD, MISD, or RISD school holidays suggest this option.
Most often, Troop Meetings are one and a half hours in length, but that also depends on the activity planned.
Parents are always welcome, but should take proper training and commit to being an Assistant Scoutmaster, in order to attend. Many parents use the half hour before or after Troop Meeting times to meet with Merit Badge Counselees or Troop Boy Leaders with whom their Coordinator responsibilities coincide.
We hope the Scouts, assigned each week to set up the room, will arrive by 1:15 pm, since they will be responsible for setting up the chairs and tables for the meeting. The other Scouts may wish to arrive a few minutes early, so the Senior Patrol leader can convene the Troop Meeting at 1:30pm sharp.
Similarly, each week, certain Scouts will be assigned clean up the room. Please realize this may take 15 extra minutes for them to return the room to the set up we found. We must exit the premises no later than 4pm, due to the room being needed by a Youth Choir.
There will often be other groups meeting in the Sanctuary, the Fellowship Hall, the Choir Room, or other classrooms. Please remain in Room 27 and 28—except when using the restrooms or fountains, or when activities are taken outdoors.
Remember!
–A Scout always notifies their Patrol Leader, the Senior Patrol Leader, or the Scoutmaster if they need to leave the Troop Meeting Room.
–A Scout always uses the buddy system.
–And, to protect the reputation of all involved, please remember the Boy
Scout philosophy of “two deep leadership” (two adults with a Scout—
never be alone with a Scout who is not your own child). This practice
has allowed Boy Scouts of America to escape the
problems associated with a lack of child protection other
groups have suffered. All registered, Adult Leaders
have background checks conducted by BSA and all adults
are invited to take the online Youth Protection Training.
In exchange for use of this fine facility, Troop 416 is committed to:
–Orderly behavior, befitting courteous Boy Scouts,
–Supervision of children too young to understand the rules (when families
are invited),
–Use of only the room(s) assigned. The entire Church has been wired for security purposes. Accordingly, opening doors, turning on lights, or using other rooms will cause a security breach.
Please review these rules with your Scout, and other children who may be in attendance for special events, and help us enforce them.
Courts of Honor (when merit badges, ranks and special awards are presented) are held quarterly—February, May, August, and November. Families are invited and these meetings are more social in nature.
